VILLAGE OF BRUCE
2019 CAUCUS
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the 2019 Village of Bruce Caucus was held on Monday, January 7, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at the Village Hall, 100 W. River Avenue, Bruce, Wisconsin.
Village President Michael Newman called to order the Caucus at 6:30 p.m. Clerk Terry Hegeholz attended and a sign in sheet was circulated. The first order of business was to elect a Chairperson to run the Caucus. Newman called for nominations for Chairperson.
Motion by Mark Zimmer to appoint Gayanne Skogen as Chairperson, seconded by Galen Brainerd. Newman called twice for any other nominations for Chairperson. Gayanne Skogen was unanimously appointed as Chairperson to run the Caucus.
Chairperson Skogen called for nominations for two tellers to canvass votes for the Caucus. Motion by John Hoiby to nominate Shane Trott as teller, seconded by Mark Zimmer. Motion by Galen Brainerd to nominate Darlene Wundrow as teller, seconded by Shane Trott.
The following positions which terms expire April 16th, 2019 are listed. The Spring Election will be held on April 2, 2019.
Incumbent Michael Newman for Village President
Incumbent Karen Hanson for Village Trustee
Incumbent John Hoiby, Sr. for Village Trustee
Incumbent Galen Brainerd for Village Trustee
Chairperson Skogen announced that Michael Newman had filed a Notification of Non-Candidacy for Village President and would not be seeking another term as Village President.
Chairperson Skogen called for nominations for Village President. Motion by Mark Zimmer to nominate Shane Trott for Village President, seconded by Darlene Wundrow. Motion by John Hoiby to nominate Galen Brainerd for Village President, seconded by Shane Trott. Motion by Kim Grasley to nominate Karen Hanson for Village President, seconded by Bill McDonald. Motion by Shane Trott to nominate Mark Zimmer for Village President, seconded by John Hoiby. Chairperson Skogen called twice for further nominations for Village President. With none made, she called for a motion to close nominations. Motion by Shane Trott to close nominations, seconded by Mark Zimmer.
Because there were four candidates nominated for the Village President position, votes were cast in the room from those who attended. Wundrow tallied the votes and the results showed Shane Trott received six votes, Galen Brainerd received five votes, Karen Hanson received seven votes and Mark Zimmer received one vote. Shane Trott and Karen Hanson will be on the ballot at the April 2nd, 2019 Spring Election.
Chairperson Skogen stated John Hoiby would not be seeking re-election for Village Trustee. She called for nominations from the floor for Village Trustees.
Motion by Eldon Skogen to nominate Larry Cabak for Village Trustee, seconded by Michael Newman.
Motion by Bill McDonald to nominate Michelle Mason for Village Trustee, seconded by Brenda Popple.
Motion by Karen Hanson to nominate Brenda Popple for Village Trustee, seconded by Michelle Mason.
Motion by Michael Newman to nominate Galen Brainerd for Village Trustee, seconded by Mark Zimmer.
Motion by Kim Grasley to nominate Bill McDonald for Village Trustee, seconded by Katie Brown.
Motion by Mark Zimmer to nominate Avery Newman for Village Trustee, seconded by Bill McDonald.
Chairperson Skogen called twice for further nominations for Village Trustees. With none made, he called for a motion to close nominations. Motion by Shane Trott to close nominations for Village Trustees, seconded by Galen Brainerd.
Chairperson Skogen read the list of nominations for Village President; Shane Trott & Karen Hanson, Village Trustees; Larry Cabak, Michelle Mason, Brenda Popple, Galen Brainerd, Bill McDonald & Avery Newman.
Chairperson Skogen called for a motion to adjourn. Motion by Mark Zimmer to adjourn the 2019 Village of Bruce Caucus, seconded by Avery Newman.
The Caucus adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
